Pumpkin Carving!

We are getting ready for Halloween and during the week we carved pumpkins with John's Tia Chata from Mexico. I found out John is amazing at cleaning out a pumpkin! What other hidden talents does he have I wonder?

Here are the finished Jack-O-Lanterns. Bobby's is first with the Welsh dragon that he did last weekend. Next is John's scary pumpkin, then mine with 3 bats but you can only see one. Last is Chata's funny face pumpkin.

When Katie grows up...

Will she be a concert pianist? I don't know but she does love pounding on the piano at grandma and grandpa Hughes especially when daddy is playing.

Back In The Day & Today

Last Fall I was looking forward to the birth of our little girl.I felt very large but had larger to get. I was very lucky to have a good pregnancy.

Now Katie is 11 months old and so much fun.
Here Katie is in her Halloween shirt enjoying the fall weather and a fun swing. She still has little hair although in the back it's starting to thicken, it will likely be a while before we have tangles to deal with.

Walking!!!

Last Monday Sept. 27 Katie took her first 3 unassisted steps and since then she has been working on getting more stable. She can walk a good 10 steps and is cruising with little help all over the place. Before we know it she'll be running. She also has gotten three more teeth so now she has five, three on top and two on bottom. One of those teeth broke through when our new little walking baby toppled and hit her swollen gums, there was some bleeding and pain but it was the fastest tooth thats come through. Katie wants to be done with baby food she would rather eat finger food or what John and I are having. We are going to finish what baby food we have and be done with it. She is really growing up fast.

Wednesday of last week Johns mom came home from the hospital. She is glad to be home and we and our gas budget are glad we don't have so far to drive to see her. She seems to be doing ok although her sleep isn't very consistent. This Wednesday she gets staples and drains removed. We again are grateful for everyone who has kept her in their prayers.

A great birthday

I had a great birthday this year, I spent the whole day with John and Katie. We had a relaxing day of no cooking we ate out all three meals. Lunch was spent at Murray park, Katie loved crawling in the grass and putting her fingers in the dirt under the tree we were by. We had dinner with John's dad and siblings at the U hospital. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes, cards, and gifts.

Katie is soooo big!

Birthday girl relaxing!

Where we've been...

Earlier this summer my mother-in-law became very ill and since then it was discovered that she has colon cancer. After a surgery to remove a cancerous tumor she had complications due to a stomach ulcer. She was taken to the University Hospital Surgical ICU and has been there for more than 3 weeks. Fortunately she is recovering well and should be moved from the SICU to a recovery unit this week. She will be in the hospital for a while longer and still has to receive treatment for her cancer. We are grateful for the many prayers offered by family and friends: please keep praying as she has more recovering to do.
